The program was unveiled during the
APSIC 2026 Congress as part of a broader effort to encourage healthcare
institutions to adopt higher environmental hygiene standards through a
scientific assessment framework and evaluation criteria developed by APSIC.
Professor Moi Lin Ling, Chair of
the APSIC Environment Hygiene Excellence Award Programme, said that
environmental hygiene is a fundamental pillar of infection prevention and patient
safety. However, its implementation varies significantly among healthcare
facilities across the Asia Pacific region. She noted that the initiative is
expected to raise awareness and promote the adoption of best practices in
healthcare institutions.
Hospitals participating in the
programme will be evaluated using APSIC's guidelines and audit criteria by an
independent panel of infection prevention experts from across the region. In
addition to the assessment process, participating hospitals will receive
educational support through webinars, training sessions, and expert guidance to
strengthen infection prevention strategies and improve environmental hygiene
management.
Patrick Kaminski, President and CEO
of Schuelke Asia Pacific, reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting
higher hospital hygiene standards through scientific collaboration and
educational initiatives for healthcare professionals throughout the region.
Hospitals that reach the final
stage will undergo on-site audits conducted by APSIC experts. The winners will
be announced and honoured during the APSIC Congress 2028.
Through this initiative, APSIC and
Schuelke aim to establish stronger environmental hygiene standards, encourage
knowledge sharing among healthcare institutions, and ultimately improve patient
safety and the quality of healthcare services across the Asia Pacific region.
