TONGXIANG — The World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit 2026 concluded on November 5 in Wuzhen, China, signaling a pivotal shift in the global robotics landscape. Moving past early stage novelty demonstrations like dancing or coffee brewing, leading Chinese tech firms showcased autonomous machines and AI systems actively deploying into emergency response, urban mobility, and critical industrial infrastructure.

Industry players including Unitree Robotics, AgiBot, and UBTECH utilized the summit’s "Light of Internet" Expo to demonstrate practical real-world deployments. Among the highlights was Unitree’s GD01, a robot engineered specifically for disaster search-and-rescue operations.

American content creator Evan Kail, attending the expo, noted that machines like the GD01 mark a significant transition toward life-saving technology in response to escalating climate challenges.

Real-World Deployments and Connectivity Infrastructure

The event underscored that real-world deployment requires more than advanced hardware; it demands high-speed, ultra-low-latency networks to process AI calculations at the edge:

Smart Urban Mobility: Hangzhou Police deployed 15 traffic-management robots across major tourist and downtown intersections to answer queries, guide pedestrians, and assist with traffic violations.

Industrial Automation: China Mobile and Sinopharm developed an AI-enabled cold-chain logistics platform that cut delivery costs by 65% and transit times by 70%. Additionally, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port now operates on the world's largest 5G private network for port management.

Next-Gen Network Capabilities: Current deployments leverage 5G-Advanced networks featuring latency under 10 milliseconds and upload speeds reaching 1,000 Mbps, paving the way for integrated 6G communications, edge computing, and satellite sensing.

The Network as an AI Engine

China Mobile engineers emphasized that future 6G networks will serve as both sensory systems and computing hubs. By combining radar-like environment sensing with satellite connectivity via Tiantong and BeiDou systems, autonomous machines will operate reliably even when ground infrastructure is compromised by natural disasters.

While interactive robots drew crowds on the exhibition floor, the summit highlighted that the true transformation lies behind the scenes—where network infrastructure, edge computing, and AI converge to drive modern municipal, industrial, and emergency operations. (*/ed).
